This is SO interesting! And helpful! And inspiring.
I love the genesis story of how you and Stephanie connected. And to think that you and I connected bc I saw that very piece you were featured in (bc I was following Stephanie post-quoting her in my book) is pretty cool.
You’re such a good “seed planter.” And you have such good patience around those seeds, too. Ah! Inspired by you yet again. It’s really cool to see the back story of how these things come about and to know that yes, they are possible!
I got interviewed for the school paper in high school once and was so mis-represented that I've been terrified to do it ever again! This was a really interesting perspective.
I've noticed you reference private facebook groups in a few other substack posts. Do you have any tips for finding groups like the ones you've referenced?
Oh, I totally understand the fear of being misrepresented. I had such great experiences with the journalists from the Atlantic, but I had less positive experiences with a few other outlets.
Re: the Facebook groups, I’ll send you a private message.
Do you still use Twitter/X for this or have you found another way to stay aware of these requests? I'm also curious if you have any experience with studyhall.xyz. Do you know what kind of requests tend to show up there?
You know, I still scroll Twitter for these types of calls, but not as often as before (part of this is because, at the season I’m in in life, I have less time to seek these sorts of opportunities out). I think there are lots of great private writing FB groups that post media/pitch calls.
I’ve heard great things about StudyHall, but I don’t use it.
Thank you so much! #journorequest is a hashtag I often search on Twitter to find these particular interview requests. I don’t see it used as frequently on Instagram, though.
Solid advice! I need to set up a Google Alert for body image and food issues. Thanks, Anna.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for reading, Maureen!

I'm so grateful for your kind words and encouragement, Brit -- thank you!

Thank you. This is marvelous. Having trouble understanding how I can find #journorequest.
