This is so helpful! I love how you not only give the backstory but include the failed pitch and rejection as well as the one that worked. Wow! Also, funny story: my husband was just asking about me writing for RD. He (and I) grew up reading it at his grandparents, and he said that, to him, getting something published there means you “really made it” as a writer. 😂 So huge congratulations!! 🎉
I left X/ Twitter several years ago, but reading this makes me think I need to restart my account. Same with LinkedIn—I’ve basically ignored it. I need to figure out how to better utilize these as a writer.
I LOVE that your husband felt like publishing in RD was the epitome of "making it." I actually felt similarly -- I was so excited about this acceptance, mostly because of my childhood memories of reading the magazine at my grandma's house. Thank you for all of your kindness and encouragement!
Anna, this is most helpful and affirmed some behaviors I've tried but need to put into regular practice. Great job! Thank you so much. I shared in "The Raven Lunatic" on Facebook which is my writer's site.
Anna, I love your backstory stories! Thank you for sharing all the details. I am not actively pitching, but I know when I do, I will remember this series and come back to explore how to.
I don’t even know where to begin!!!! I love every single thing about this whole piece. I wanted to quote all of it back to you. Hahhaa!!
I LOVE how you decided to start using your in-between time for writing in your Notes app and scrolling for needed pitches. It’s proof how that time adds up and how we have more time than we even think.
I also love how you always paint a picture of possibility for us. Even when someone says no…at first!!! And even when, yes, the pitch is about cleaning.
Aaaanddddd I love the gamifying part, too. I talk a lot about this in Mama Be Present. Involving the kids…turning things playful….it changes everything. Mundane life becomes magical.
Keep up the incredible work. You are a beacon of light!!!!!
Brit, YOU are a beacon of light. Every conversation I have with you always fill me with so much joy. Thank you for taking the time to read this and to encourage me. I'm so grateful for your friendship!
Anna, I love this series. It’s so helpful getting the inside scoop and seeing your actual pitch. Very generous of you to share these details. Thank you!
