Love your approach to writing short pieces, Anna! You’ve already convinced me not to indulge in snacking.

I have a master's degree in health education, and I've pitched a few health-related essays without a win. But following academic studies in the headlines....brilliant. Thanks, Anna, and I love your exercise snack essay!

Such a great tip! This is similar to what I teach my students about using studies and data for ideas. Great minds think alike! :)

The 3 types of essays gave me a new frame and considerations for essays I'm thinking about — so super helpful. And I always appreciate reading your actual pitch and the outcome. These are terrific monthly features. Thank you for writing them!

Also, I'm learning from your headline writing. I would probably have titled this something blah, like "3 Types of Essays You Can Write from Academic Journal Studies" — but your headline that begins "You know that colleague...." made me click on it and read it right away. My brain was intrigued and wanted to know more. Story-telling, right there in a single line. Thanks for the masterclass in several ways today.

Ah, thank you for such encouragement! And I’m so glad the headline felt like a scene in and of itself and got you to click 😊

Love this post, Anna! So important and filled with actionable ways to be heard via writing. That said, my fellow high school teachers DREAD when someone raises their hand at the end of a long facility meeting;)

Ha! I’m with your fellow teachers. Nothing worse than a mandatory meeting going overly-long.
